Google leads Greenpeace ranking of IT firms

Environmental watchdog Greenpeace has released the 5th edition of its Cool IT Leaderboard, which sees Internet search engine giant Google overtaking on climate issues, followed by Cisco and Ericsson.

The latest Cool IT Leaderboard ranks 21 IT companies on their clean energy leadership potential, willingness to embrace clean energy solutions and potential to influence energy decisions.

Acer lifts curtain on new LED projector

Tech giant Acer recently introduced the Acer K330, its first LED projector with 500 ANSI lumens of brightness.

Wi-tribe extends Plan 598 to Feb. 15

Wi-Max service provider Wi-tribe Telecoms has extended the offering of its Plan 598, its unlimited pure 4G Internet plan, until February 15, 2012 as a Valentine’s gift to customers.

Wi-tribe is a partnership between San Miguel Corporation and Qatar Telecom.

For P598 a month, wi-tribe subscribers get unlimited 4G Internet at a speed of 1 mbps with no lock-in period.

Facebook users alerted on phishing attack ‘in the wild’

Anti-virus firm Kaspersky Lab has warned Facebook users of a new form of phishing which tries to steal not just their Facebook credentials but also their credit cards information.

“This Facebook phishing attack is pretty interesting because it does not just try to trick the victim into visiting a phishing website,” said Kaspersky Lab security expert David Jacoby.

“It will reuse the stolen information and login to the compromised account and change both profile picture and name. The profile picture will be changed to the Facebook logo and the name will be translated to “Facebook Security” but containing special ASCII characters replacing letters such as “a” “k” “S” and “t”,” Jacoby…

The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) has called on the House of Representatives to hasten the passage of the Cybercrime bill after the Senate approved its version of the measure last week.
