Organizations wanting to get their message out could harness the immense power of social media, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said in a recent speech.

Speaking before the members and officers of the Institute of Management Consultants of the Philippines (Imphil), Coloma said communication between people has changed dramatically and that organizations must recognize this seachange.
Coloma was the guest speaker during Imphil’s membership meeting and induction of officers for 2012 held at the Metropolitan Club in Makati City.
In a presentation, Coloma explained that the old communication model is merely a one-way channel. On the other hand, the new communication process allows for multidimensional interaction among people, he said.
“Since the invention of the Internet, the way we communicate has been transformed dramatically. We now live in a dialogue world where everyone has his own channel of communication and information in real time,” he said.
Coloma shared the use of social media by the PCOO and the Office of the President (OP) in performing their work as communicators for the chief executive. Among the social media tools being used by the PCOO include Google, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, and blogs among others, he said.
He clarified, however, that social media is not about tools and technologies but about people.
Also, Coloma said discussed the Government 2.0 concept or the use of Web 2.0 technology in solving various problems across city, provincial, national, and even at the international level.
