HP eyes local SMEs for new microservers

Tech giant HP Philippines bared on Tuesday, July 9, a new line of microservers under its HP ProLiant line that are aimed at local SMEs (small and medium enterprises).

At a press launch held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel, HP Philippines category manager Veronica “Bambi” Escalante said the small form factor as well as the affordable cost of the servers makes them ideal for SMEs.

The new HP ProLiant MicroServer Generation 8 (Gen8), she said, is an ideal first server that provides simplified setup, management and maintenance with HP Smart Technologies.

The microserver starts at P37,000 with 1TB of HDD. If an HP switch is bundled, the price increases to P43,500.

Apart from the ProLiant MicroServer Generation 8, the local HP office also announced the availability of new solutions that include the HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 and HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2.

Escalante said the microservers do not go against the cloud strategy of HP since not all the tech requirements of SME?s should be done on the cloud.

Based on current buying trends, at least 5.1 million small businesses worldwide will purchase their first server within the next five years, according to HP, citing consulting firm AMI Partners.

The MicroServer Gen8 is half the size of most competitive entry-level servers, which allows it to be displayed on the floor or desk.

It is an ideal first server solution for micro and small businesses, enabling collaboration through centralized information and data sharing, the company said.

Designed for organizations with less than 10 employees, the HP MicroServer Gen8 shares and secures critical information in a central server.

Data and applications housed on the server are remotely accessible from virtually any Web-connected device with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
