RTU bares move to Google Apps

After the University of the Philippines (UP), another state university has announced that it will now be using Google Apps for Education, a suite of cloud-based productivity tools.

Students, faculty, and employees of its main campus based in Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong City, as well as its Pasig campus will be using the cloud solution.

According to Andy Altea, management information center director of RTU, the transition to Google was brought by the need to have one platform for collaboration.

?Google Apps makes everything we need as a learning institution available to us. All we need to do is explore it,? he said. ?Another important benefit is that Google Apps is free, so we can now allocate our money to other requirements.?

Google Apps for Education is an integrated communication and collaboration solution for schools. Google Apps will enable RTU to communicate effectively through Gmail, plan resource schedules through Google Calendar, and collaborate efficiently using Google Docs.

?We at Google are pleased that Rizal Technological University is joining other universities and colleges in the Philippines that have gone Google. We hope it empowers RTU?s faculty and employees to work more efficiently, and its students to learn better,? said Janet Yoon, Google Apps supporting programs lead for the Philippines.

RTU has one of the highest enrollee count in a single school in Manila with more than 24,000 this school year.
