By Tom Noda

Hoping to make the so-called “omni-channel retailing” a reality, tech giant HP conducted on Friday, Aug. 30, the first regional showcase of its latest technologies in the Philippines.

The company unveiled its retail technologies at an event dubbed, ?HP Retail Therapy 2013?, at the Shangri-La hotel in Makati City.

Christian Charlton, director for HP retail solutions printing and personal systems group in Asia Pacific & Japan, led the demonstration of the company?s Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and other retail solutions comprised of a self-checkout system, touch-enabled wall displays, and barcode scanners.

Charlton said HP’s portfolio of retail-focused products and services can enable retailers achieve omni-channel retailing, which is the ability to provide a seamless experience across multiple customer touch points within their stores.

The retail POS systems are composed of products such as the HP RP7 Model 7100 with customer-facing 10.4″ display; the HP RP7 Retail System Model 7800, and HP ElitePad Mobile POS Solution.

The RP 77100 is a fanless POS meant to cater retailers in the hospitality and R & B space. Its fanless design resists splashes as well as smoke and dust, making it ideal for bars and restaurants.

Meanwhile, Charlton described the RP 7800 as a modern, space-saving system with all the capabilities of a traditional retail solution having a sleek design that fits well into retail and hospitality environments. It is powered by quad-core second-generation Intel Core processors with Intel vPro Technology.

The HP ElitePad Mobile POS Solution, meanwhile, is composed of the HP ElitePad plus an HP Retail Jacket that allows businesses to meet customer needs anywhere in the store with mobile POS and assisted-selling capabilities.

Charlton said the ElitePad mobile solution helps retailers to save time and money as it integrates into a retailer’s existing IT infrastructure, allowing them to connect to store systems.

“Consumers expect the same personalized experience they get online or their mobile device in a retail with brick-and-mortar store,” Charlton said.

“With the mobile POS solution, store managers and associates are empowered to move the sale from behind the counter, giving them the ability to assist the customer right on the sales floor for immediate customer satisfaction.”

Among the built-in functionalities of the HP ElitePad Mobile POS include 1D/2D barcode scanner and three-track encrypted bi-directional magnetic stripe reader, integrated detachable hand strap, and an optional secondary battery.
