Gov?t warns against stem cell products sold online

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has alerted the public on the sale of stem cell-based products online, saying these items could be unsafe and dangerous.

The FDA said a number of those selling online failed to meet the registration deadline it set last August 31. Those who were not able to register are now deemed illegal sellers of stem cell products.

One of the products which the agency was able to monitor is Bio Stem Plus. The FDA said the product, which is being advertised and sold in sulit.com.ph, contains ?deceitful health and therapeutic claims?.

The product indicated that it could naturally increase adult stem cell circulation and can aid repair of damaged tissues. It also claimed that it could assist up to 70 known human conditions and decrease the effects of age.

The FDA urged consumers to be ?vigilant and critical? about online and digital advertisements and be wary ?not to fall prey to the marketing schemes of Internet fraudsters?. — Azer N. Parrocha, PNA
