The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Philippine Council on Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), has announced this year?s ?Search for Outstanding R&D? under the following categories: industrial technology, energy, utilities and systems, emerging technologies, and special concerns.
The search is open to all Filipino scientists, researchers, and engineers from universities and colleges, R&D institutions, and private industries.
Entries to the industrial technology category should be about process, chemicals, mining and minerals, metals and engineering, and food processing.
Under the energy and utilities category, entries should be about alternative sources of energy, energy efficiency, and transportation.
Meanwhile, the emerging technology category is looking for researches that touch on materials science and nanotechnology, biotechnology and genomics, information and communications technology, electronics and semiconductor, space technology applications, and photonics.
Climate change, disaster risk reduction management, and the environment form the research areas for special concerns.
The R&D project should have been conducted mainly in the Philippines and completed between January 2010 and December 2014.
Details of the completed project should follow the prescribed format. Also, entries should be certified by the head of the institution or organization.

The search is one of DOST?s initiatives to boost the country?s competitive edge through quality R&D. According to the World Economic Forum?s 2013-2014 Global Competitive Report (GCR), the Philippines is currently ranked 59th, six notches higher than its 2012-2013 GCR ranking of 65th.
The competitiveness index defines the country?s level of productivity which in turn reflects the level of economic prosperity which can be attained in a specified time.
