The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday, May 6, announced that it will activate 300 closed circuit television (CCTV) systems in crime-prone areas of Metro Manila.
Senior Superintendent Bartolome Tobias, PNP spokesperson, said these CCTVs will be installed in Monumento, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Baclaran-Pasay, Taguig, Ermita, EDSA-West Avenue, Quirino Highway, Commonwealth Avenue, East Avenue, Sampaloc and Tondo, Manila.
He added that these locations are part of the 13 police stations with identified crime-prone areas.
The target areas are identified through an “Ink Blot” system, wherein there will be a certain point of priority area and in due course said strategy will spread to other places of public convergence.
Another part of this continuous project called ?Metro Hawk Eye? is located in the University Belt and Pasay-Taft where busy streets and roads are identified.
Selected personnel of the PNP Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management have placed 16 strategically located CCTVs in the corners of Pasay-Taft as part of the Metro Hawk Eye Special Project.
?This will serve as a warning to individuals and groups who have criminal intent because they are being watched behind these CCTVs,? PNP officer-in-charge deputy director Leonardo Espina said.
He added the CCTVs will also add to the safety and security of pedestrians walking in these streets. — PNA
