The company was formally introduced on Aug. 15 at the Shangri-La Hotel at The Fort in Bonifacio Global City, where Teradata executives announced the availability of Think Big’s services in the country.

At the event were Think Big Consulting Services principal data scientist and international practice lead Martin Oberhuber, Teradata Philippines country manager Ella Mae Ortega, and Teradata chief technology officer (CTO) Stephen Brobst.

Teradata acquired Think Big Analytics Inc. in September 2014.

“With Think Big Consulting Services, Teradata can provide customers the best and vendor independent consulting service to help customers build their data-driven business strategy with the right processes and the right technology,” Ortega said.

?Big data is not just the size of the data. Big data is also different types of data… which has variety, velocity, and volume. But to us big data is still data in different forms,” said Ortega.

The arrival of the internet and all the new technology changed the type of data from previous years to today, she explained. Ortega said “for companies, data has always been a very valuable asset because data through the use of analytics will help companies to understand not just their operational information.”

The lady executive said Think Big?s solutions “provides an avenue for companies to be able to change or evolve based on the data that they have.”

“For example, questions like why did this happen, how did this happen, and how can we avoid it in the future? So, data in itself will be as useful only until you do your own analysis, you do your own discovery. And that’s where you get more value from the data that you have,” said Ortega.

Oberhuber presented what Think Big Consulting Services is all about and what it can do for big companies and small companies, saying “a lot of startups are leveraging big data.” “We are aiming to be the biggest in the world. We combine world-class data engineering and data science.”

Ortega said “big data is not new, but you require skills to be able to manage it, you require tools to be able to analyze it, and that’s where we come in.”

She said Teradata has the skills and experience and has worked with many customers in many parts of the world, including in the Philippines, which gives the company a wealth of learning experiences it can share with customers.

Many companies nowadays, she added, “are already realizing the value of data that they have… it just so happened that some of the data they have are more complex and are more difficult to manage.”

?Managing big data requires a lot of skills in design and architecture, implement and manage. That’s where Teradata has proven its value as a big data company,? said Ortega.

Oberhuber also emphasized importance of security in data management. “With big data technology nowadays, how to use data in the most secure way has brought a huge need for security officer,” he said.

The executive said Think Big Consulting Services has industry-trusted data scientists, engineers, and consultants in place that allows it to share its expertise and support customers to quickly extract value from their data.
