Dell EMC names Latinazo as new PH subsidiary chief

For the first time since computer maker Dell announced in Oct. 2015 that it was buying storage firm EMC, the combined company has announced the leadership team for its Philippine office.

At a Filipiniana-themed press event at the Bonifacio Global City, regional executive Paul Henaghan formally announced the designation of veteran executive Ronnie Latinazo as the new country general manager of Dell EMC Philippines.

Latinazo was the first ? and last ? country manager of EMC Philippines. His appointment as new chief of Dell EMC Philippines means he will continue his stint as the longest-serving country manager of a major IT multinational giant, having led EMC?s local operations since its inception in 2000.

An economics graduate of the University of the Philippines, Latinazo got his start in the IT industry after getting hired at IBM Philippines in the 1990s.

Working under Latinazo is Chris Papa, who led Dell Philippines before the EMC buyout. Papa, a relatively junior executive compared to Latinazo, will serve as the company’s channels general manager.

Unlike the messy merger between tech giants HP and Compaq in 2002 wherein a number of local executives got the boot, the union of the local units of EMC and Dell was basically smooth and uneventful.

At the press briefing, Latinazo said there no employee on either side was laid off. ?We were able to accommodate everyone. In fact, we are even hiring for new roles,? he said.

As the new head honcho of a tech titan, Latinazo said new challenges await him. Unlike before when he had only the storage market to look out for, he says his responsibilities now are broader as Dell EMC products and solutions cover practically the entire IT system.
