According to Dwi Adriansah, Twitter’s head of business development in Southeast Asia and Australia, Twitter Lite is primarily aimed for devices with weak Internet connection or limited storage.

He noted that the website launches 30% faster, and can minimize data usage by up to 70%. A company statement said that it takes up less than 1MB memory on mobile devices.

He also said that Twitter Lite allows users to continue reading tweets while offline or in situations where they suddenly lose connection.

“We are focusing on the growing trend of Twitter subscribers using the mobile browser,” Adriansah said, adding that Twitter Lite can only be accessed through mobile or by visiting Twitter’s mobile website.

Twitter also partnered with Globe Telecom and Smart Communication for showbiz updates through Globe Entertainment and Smart Entertainment.
