Galaxy Battles Major and New Blood Championship happening this October 2017 and January 2018 will serve as a follow-up for the recently wrapped up Galaxy Battles in June 2017 held in Shenzhen, China.

The New Blood Championships is a Southeast Asia-based amateur DotA 2 tournament that will be launched this year. Participants are fighting for a total prize pool of $40,000 and main event slots to Season 2 of Galaxy Battles Major.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Battles Major commencing in January 2018 will give out a total prize pool of $1,000,000 featuring the regional invitational qualifiers and the open qualifiers played in China, South East Asia, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), North America and South America.

“The market for South East Asian eSports has been growing rapidly,” PWEL’s project director Sky Lim said. “It is the second largest market in the world. We are looking forward to create a Southeast Asia team that will have the ability to take part at the world stage of any eSports tournament.”

Specifically created to provide more exposure for aspiring competitive gamers, the New Blood Championships will be the first in the series of amateur gaming tournaments across Southeast Asia.

Galaxy Battles Major, on the other hand, will be hosted at Philippine Arena in Bulacan. The venue and its surrounding area will be separated into 3 main sections:

  • The Galaxy Battles Esports Arena – a 60,000 capacity esports battle ground where the top 18 teams of the world will battle for the $1,000,000 total prize pool.
  • The Galaxy Battles Dota 2 World – the first ever Dota 2 themed activities ground will feature a range of theme park-like activities.
  • The Galaxy Entertainment Arena – located in an open air stadium parallel to the Philippines Arena will host the Galaxy Battles music festival.

“Introducing new experiential event components to esports events brings a new dynamic to the overall consumer experience,” Adrian Gaffor, Managing Director of Fallout Gaming, said. “What we hope to achieve with the fusion of entertainment and esports is a more holistic approach to creating an exciting and fresh way to experience gaming.”

The Galaxy Battles Major will be on the 19th, 20th and 21st of January 2018, while the New Blood Championship is happening on October 6 and 7, 2017 at Samsung Hall, SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City.
