Fitbit launches Ionic, its first fitness smartwatch, in PH

American wearable devices manufacturer Fitbit officially launched on Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the Philippines its first fitness smartwatch — the Fitbit Ionic.

The Fitbit Ionic is officially available in the Philippines for P15,690

Designed mainly for fitness and health-tracking, the Fitbit Ionic is built with an SpO2 sensor — a pulse oximeter measuring oxygen saturation in the blood — for tracking health insights such as sleep apnea. The device automatically keeps track of activities and sleep.

Strong GPS tracking is a primary feature of the device as it has an integrated antenna that records pace and distance (map of walk), as well as to measure elevation.

The device is enabled with cross-platform compatibility making it possible to transfer music and install in-house apps on least 2.5-gigabyte memory included in the smartwatch.

The smartwatch can run for at least five days of battery life on a single charge.

“We believe that the smartwatch market will grow in the Philippines,” Fitbit regional lead for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan Louis Lye said, noting the new interest on wearable devices technology among Filipinos.

IT research and advisory company Gartner in a report says that the global wearable electronic device market is expected to have $50 billion in sales by the year 2021.

“With Ionic, we are delivering what consumers have not yet seen in a smartwatch — a health and fitness first platform that combines the power of personalization and deeper insights with our most advanced technology to date, unlocking opportunities for unprecedented health tracking capabilities in the future,” Fitbit co-founder and CEO James Park said.

Fitbit Ionic is priced at P15,690 available across major retail stores and online shops. The smartwatch is available in three color combinations: silver gray tracker and clasp with blue gray band, smoke gray tracker and clasp with charcoal band, and burnt orange tracker and clasp with slate blue band.

The wireless fitness headphones Fitbit Flyer and smart scale Aria 2, which will be made available in the country soon, is priced at P6,790 and P7,690, respectively.
