Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has named young lawyer Leandro Angelo “Dino” Aguirre as the new deputy commissioner at the National Privacy Commission (NPC). Aguirre, a graduate of the UP College of Law and Harvard Law School, will fill up the post left vacant by the resignation last year of tech veteran Dondi Mapa.
Aguirre’s appointment completes the cast of leadership at NPC, which is currently headed by commissioner Raymund Liboro and deputy commissioner Ivy Patdu. Aguirre is expected to take his oath of office next week.
Aguirre was a partner at the Fajardo Law Offices before he assumed his current role at the NPC. He also worked as an assistant vice president at telco giant PLDT for two years where he collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team to formulate PLDT’s strategy for its digital pivot.
He also had a stint at the office of Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and was a consultant at the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG). He was chief of staff for the undersecretary for legal affairs at the Department of Transportation and Communications from September 2011 to August 2012.
Aguirre has a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University with a specialty on corporation law and mergers and acquisition.
