ePLDT set to open 2nd Vitro data center in Cebu, 10th overall in PH

ePLDT, the Internet arm of industry titan PLDT, is gearing up for the opening of its 10th Vitro data center located in Cebu this April.

Present during the the groundbreaking ceremony of the second Vitro data center in Cebu in September 2016 were (from left) PLDT VisMin vorporate relationship business head Jimmy Chua, ePLDT CTO Dave Simon, ePLDT Group COO Nerisse Ramos, PLDT/Smart EVP and ePLDT president and CEO Eric Alberto, PLDT executive advisor for fixed network Rudi Frey and PLDT head of corporate relationship management Dick Perez

Once operational, the new facility will provide additional 800-rack capacity to complement the 8,300 racks that the PLDT Group has put together in different locations in Pasig, Cebu, Para?aque, Taguig, Subic, Clark, Davao, and Makati.

?Visayas and Mindanao are homes of the most vibrant industries and business communities who greatly contribute to the country?s economic growth. We?ve seen the traction of data center services being utilized in the operations and business continuity plans of the region?s local enterprises,? said PLDT Group chief revenue officer and ePLDT CEO Eric Alberto.

?Our expansion plans will complement the growing need for data center services in the region and provide a stronger foundation to sustain the momentum of businesses to become more competitive with digital services,? he said.

The 10th Vitro data center features state-of-the-art design and architecture of its predecessors, including 11 layers of physical security and the use of biometric devices equipped with finger vein recognition technology.

The new site will also be complemented with 200 disaster recovery seats to address the business continuity requirements of Cebu-based enterprises.

Nerisse Ramos, ePLDT group chief operating officer, said, ?By launching this second data center in Cebu by the second quarter of this year, we can enable more economic growth in the region as companies expand their businesses.?

The Vitro network of data centers also boasts of cutting-edge SDN (software-defined networking) technology which allows it to deploy robust connectivity across different data center sites.

First deployed in March last year, the SDN technology simplifies the configuration, control, and management of enterprise networks.

As opposed to manuaI configuration, SDN-powered data centers enable network automation, giving enterprises the agility to address issues of scalability, virtualization, and security efficiently with minimal impact to business activities.

Through SDN, the network of Vitro data centers is interconnected, enabling a faster and smoother experience for its co-location customers.

With SDN technology, enterprises are given the opportunity to easily manage their data stored on the cloud without having to worry about online threats.

They are likewise able to deliver content and respond to market conditions in a timelier manner. The telco giant, through ePLDT, has implemented the technology since the early part of 2017.

?The continued expansion of our Vitro Data center network is a testament that at the core of our innovation, we have our customers and partners in mind. This allows us to deliver the best technologies available to enable our customers to focus on their core business,? said Jovy Hernandez, SVP and head of PLDT and Smart Enterprise Groups.
