Telco firm Globe Telecom and The Walt Disney Company Philippines have joined hands to mount a nationwide program to encourage volunteerism among Filipinos dubbed “Time Please.”

Launched on May 25 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City, “Time Please” makes use of the portal www.timeplease.ph which was created with Globe Future Maker iVolunteer Philippines and Gawad Kalinga’s volunteer portal.

The portal lists various volunteer projects around the country with a brief description of each activity, when and where it is going to be held, the number of volunteers needed, and some instructions.

Meanwhile, individuals planning to do volunteer work but wouldn’t know where or how to start may sign up as a group at the portal for free. The portal then matches the would-be volunteers with the appropriate volunteer project they may be interested in. Their number of volunteer hours will also be recorded under the program.

“Time Please” therefore encourages corporations, organizations, government agencies, academic institutions and other groups with initiatives that require volunteers to register their projects in the portal’s list and gain access to a wider pool of volunteers around the country. At the same time, it will help to further strengthen volunteerism in the Philippines.

“With the help of technology, we wish to make volunteering more accessible to many Filipinos, thereby making it easier for our partners and customers to contribute to nation building,” said Globe Telecom president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu.

“Part of what we do is we want grow and develop kids and families and the volunteering program that we’ve initiated in the Philippines is something that we’ve done in many other parts of Asia as well and we’re very excited about that,” said The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia’s EVP and managing director Mahesh Samat.

The Philippines is ranked seventh in the world in the list of countries having the most number of people volunteering their time in 2016, according to the Charities Aid Foundation World Giving Index 2017. Based on the Index, a total of 25 million Filipinos volunteered for various projects in 2016.

“Time Please” will run from May 25 to August 19, 2018. Those interested to join the program should form themselves into groups of two to four people, one of whom should be the team leader who should at least be 18 years old with an active Globe or TM number. Each member of the group must have a cellphone as well as an email address.

The group with the highest number of volunteer hours upon the completion of the program will get an all-expense paid trip for four to Hong Kong Disneyland. Those who are not Globe customers may still participate in “Time Please.” However, they are not eligible for the prize.
