Smartphone maker Vivo unveiled in the Philippines on Thursday, June 21, the first smartphone equipped with In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology during a launch event held at Okada Manila.

As the first in the X series to come in the Philippines, Vivo X21 has its fingerprint scanner located in the screen that takes up 90.3% of its body, rather than placed at the rear side or below the screen as previous models have.

It is also equipped with an infrared facial recognition scanner, which can serve as alternative to the fingerprint scanner for unlocking the phone.

According to Vivo Philippines vice president for sales Hazel Bascon, the phone is available nationwide for the price of P29,999.

In addition, X21’s AI Photography features include Scene Recognition that can identify a scene between 18 tags and 140 scenarios, and Face Beauty that provides a facial enhancement setting according to the subject’s sex and skin tone as detected.

It also has a 12-megapixel front and rear camera and a secondary rear camera of 5MP with apertures of 1.8 and 2.4, respectively.

The phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE chip and a 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM, and an AK4763 audio chipset.

Its AI Game Mode can prevent accidental touches. It also has a small gaming keyboard and allows receiving calls in the background while playing.

“What is about to unfold before you is the reveal of the world’s first smartphone to feature an In-Screen Fingerprint Scanner, housed to a beautifully designed all-black build: a smartphone that is truly exceptional in more ways than one,” Bascon said.
