OneWatt, a startup that uses non-invasive sensors to ?listen? to industrial motors to predict and identify faults, has won the Philippine round of Seedstars World and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to $1 million in equity investment and other prizes.
Seedstars World, which is said to be the largest seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, held the local edition of its global contest on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
The event took place at Acceler8 where eight startups were invited to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.
OneWatt uses its EARS (Embedded Acoustic Recognition Sensors) to literally listen to motors. Using these acoustic data, the startup is able to detect and predict faults before they cause unnecessary downtime, an innovative solution that led them to be win the startup contest.
AdMov, a solution that uses location data with facial recognition to identify the rider?s age, and gender to deliver personalized advertising and content, was awarded the second place.
Veer Immersive, a training system for flight attendants that saves airlines millions of dollars by using virtual reality technology, grabbed the last spot in the top 3.
As a part of the prize, One watt will be participating at the Seedstars Global Summit, which takes place in Switzerland, in April 2019. It is a weeklong training program, with the opportunity to meet the 65+ winners from other fast growing economies, as well as investors and mentors from around the world.
The final day of the summit is dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of more than 1,000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to $1 million in equity investment and other prizes.
At Seedstars Manila, the eight finalists received $10,000 worth of credits in Amazon Web Services. The other startups invited to pitch were:
