Canon PH takes wrap off new EOS R mirrorless digicam

By Crista Quintos

Canon has launched its much-awaited Canon EOS R mirrorless digital camera on Wednesday, October 3, at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City.

The Canon EOS R is Canon?s very first 35mm full-frame SMOS sensor mirrorless interchangeable-lens digital camera with an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), making the new camera lighter than ever before.

?We at Canon Philippines are very much delighted to announce yet another milestone, not just for the brand but for the future of photography,? Benny Yu, marketing head of consumer imaging and information division at Canon Philippines, said during the program.

At the heart of the system lies the new ground-breaking range finder (RF) mount that provides an enhanced high-speed data processing between the lens and the body ? which enables fast Auto Focus and better image stabilization and optimization.

?The lightweight camera and revolutionary optics of the system enables you to literally and figuratively take your photography to new heights,? said editorial photographer Light Wesley Villarica, who gave a testimony during the event.

Because of the new RF, the EOS R features the world?s fastest, near instantaneous focusing speed of 0.05 seconds. Also, a full-frame Dual Pixel SMOS AF (auto focus) sensor gives its user 5,655 manually selectable focus points and an ISO sensitivity range of 100-40,00 for still images and 100-25,600 for videos.

Additionally, with Canon wanting to provide its users with an adaptable camera, the new Canon EOS R makes shooting in low-light possible. With the new DIGIC 8 imaging processor, its Auto Lighting Optimizer applies gradient to deliver the details, highlights, and shadows for a well-balanced photograph.

Also unveiled are the first four RF lenses of the Canon EOS R that are said to exceed the bounds in lens design for mirrorless cameras.

Aside from the focus and zoom rings that are found on traditional electro focus (EF) lenses, the RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, RF50mm f/1.2L USM, RF28-70mm f/2L USM and RF35mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM all incorporate a control ring that users can directly adjust the settings to their liking, whether it be shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and more.

?Combined with the new RF lenses, the Canon EOS R is truly designed to take today?s visual story tellers into tomorrow,? said Edwin Martinez, a landscape photographer.

Made to work with the range finger lenses, the EOS R remains compatible with the EF and EF-lenses by using one of three optional Mount Adapters ? Mount Adapter EF-EOS R Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, and Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R.

At the launch, Canon also underlined the tie-up between the EOS R system and the Canon Pixma printers, which can be optimized together to achieve optical creativity excellence.

Perfect for small office and home offices, the new Pixma TS9570, TS8270 and TR45705 are perfect for translating wonderful images on screen into tangible photographs.

In its compact body, the Pixma line features built-in pattern designs, automatic two-sides printing productivity, and wireless connectivity. The Pixma Ink Efficient E4270 also packs a powerful productivity that operates at low cost even with larger projects.

?The Canon EOS R System was developed with a vision of continuously taking the whole EOS system further for the photo and video enthusiasts, and the new Pixma printers and CanoScan scanners to further meet the demands of budding creative entrepreneurs. With this milestone launch, we hope to drive Canon?s business in the Philippines further to new heights,? said Kazuhiro Ozawa, Canon Philippines president and CEO.

The new Canon EOS R is available at Canon dealers nationwide and on their website for P147,998.
