Gaming-designed Nokia 5.1 Plus arrives in PH market

Nokia phone brand owner HMD Global has announced the local availability of the new Nokia 5.1 Plus, which is designed for gaming and powered by AI imaging.

Starting October 29, the Nokia 5.1 Plus may be availed at authorized online Nokia mobile resellers MemoXpress and Argomall for P12,990. Every purchase comes with a free game pad. The early holiday treat allows users to enjoy an immersive gaming experience even before the holiday season starts.

To further its positioning as a smartphone for optimized casual gaming experience, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is also the official mobile device partner of Synergy 88, the producer of the all-Pinoy mobile game Barangay 143. This partnership also includes on-ground activations in malls and schools as well as participation in the recently concluded ESGS.

Shannon Mead, HMD Global country manager, said: “Our vision was to deliver reliable performance, AI imaging and contemporary design in an accessible device. With the Nokia 5.1 Plus, we aim to bring exciting gaming and entertainment experiences closer to a wider group of Filipino fans. Through this, more people can play mobile games, binge-watch their favourite series and capture great content. The Nokia 5.1 Plus is for our tech-savvy fans who love finding the best price-performance combination.”

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is one of the most-affordable smartphones powered by the most-advanced MediaTek chipset to date, the MediaTek Helio P60. The engine has been designed to deliver precise power to handle gaming, video or multitasking applications with ease.

The advanced AI built into Nokia 5.1 Plus’s chipset enables deep-learning face recognition and real-time photo enhancement. The phone’s advanced imaging allows users to capture studio style shots with depth-sensing imaging and selectable ‘bokeh’ blur and portrait lighting.

The dual 13MP/5MP rear cameras with electronic video stabilisation help ensure steady filming, sharp videos, and perfectly captured special moments with friends. Phase Detection Auto Focus helps in taking clear and focused photos.

The 5.8-inch edge-to-edge notched display gives fans maximum content with a minimal footprint. The Nokia 5.1 Plus features a pure design with 2.5D curved front and rear glass, complemented by curved edges and a high-gloss finish.

At about 8mm thin, the ergonomic design with continuous curvature makes for the ultimate premium feel in the hand. The Nokia 5.1 Plus has a sturdy metal structure, quality-tested in extreme temperatures and drop-tested to ensure that it meets the exacting quality standards of a Nokia phone.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus joins the Android One family of Nokia smartphones, offering an experience designed by Google. It stays up-to-date over time with three years of monthly security patches and two years of guaranteed OS updates after launch.

As with all Nokia smartphones in the Android One program, users get more battery and storage space out of the box brought by a carefully curated set of preloaded apps.

By shipping with Android Oreo out of the box, Nokia fans can enjoy the latest features. This includes Google Lens, picture-in-picture for multitasking, Google Play Instant to discover and run apps with minimal friction, and battery-saving features such as limiting background app use. It is also ready for Android Pie.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus comes in three colours: Gloss Black, Gloss White and Gloss Midnight Blue.
