By Espie Angelica A. de Leon

Freelance jobs platform Freelancer.com is bringing freight owners, shipping, and transport operators together in a single digital space via Freightlancer.com to move cargo faster, more conveniently, and cost-effectively around the world.

Freightlancer.com is powered by Freelancer?s wide global reach covering 247 countries, territories, and regions, Alaska and Antarctica included, and its over 30 million global users. In the Philippines, the freelancing site boasts of over 1.1 million users.

Sebastian Siseles, Freelancer.com vice president for international, shared this development with Newsbytes.PH during a one-on-one interview at Bonifacio Global City on November 20.

According to Siseles, Freelancer recently acquired Sydney-based Channel 40, an enterprise marketplace connecting freight owners with transport operators, and rebranded it into Freightlancer.com in order to bring its services to more regions around the world.

?Freight owner can post a load and the truck driver can check that. If it is on his way and if he has free space in his truck, he can just do the pick up and deliver with no hassle, with no middleman,? explained Siseles. ?Very fast, very cheap, we connect them using online tools.?

Channel 40 largely serviced the construction, mining, tunneling, rail, oil and gas industries. In the last 12 months, the platform shipped more than $4.5 million worth of freight within Asia Pacific and from Australia to the United States and Europe. Shipments between Australia and the Philippines in particular had also been completed under Channel 40.

Freightlancer.com?s services extend from complex enterprise haulage for multiple industries to consumer metro deliveries like food delivery, furniture delivery, and motorcyle and bike courier, to name a few.

Not only does the 11-time Webby Award winning platform transport load all over the globe. It also manages permits, import/export taxes and duties, marine insurance, customs clearance, pilots, quarantine, vessel booking, container rental, escrow payments, among others.

Freightlancer.com also has capabilities for live tracking cargo using real-time GPS tracking technology, real-time bidding, vetting transport operators, enabling communication between freight owners and operators, securing on-time payment via Escrow.com, and turnkey solutions for compliance.

?The acquisition of Channel 40 and the launch of Freightlancer.com represent the first productized vertical for Freelancer.com, specializing in end-to-end solutions within a single job area. This builds on our local jobs offering and taps into the Freelancer.com API, delivering a global pool of liquidity for the freight logistics industry, around the world,? said Freelancer.com chief executive Matt Barrie in a separate interview.

In 2017, the global logistics market was valued at $9,457 billion. With 41,000 businesses and over 50,000 merchant ships worldwide, the freight market moves 213,590 million tonnes of cargo and travels 17 billion kilometers per annum.
