A locally owned and developed mobile app, Tangere, made its formal launch on February 9 just in time for the start of the election campaign for the May 13 mid-term election.
Tangere, which was taken from the novel of national hero Jose Rizal, was created by local tech firm Acquisition Apps Inc., which is based in Imus, Cavite. Officials of the company led the launch in Makati City.
The executives described Tangere as a mobile app that can gather nationwide or geo-specific data about various products, trends and services, and can provide real-time market research analytics.
The company also has politicians as clients who signed up to feel the pulse of the public in preparation for the elections, according to company founder and president Martin Penaflor.
Tangere is also said to be the first and only “incentivized” mobile app accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to guarantee the prizes its gives out to its base of respondents.
Penaflor explained that the prizes serve as incentives to the voters who earn points every time they participate in every survey. These points can then be exchanged for items.
Dustin Guiyab, Tangere’s chief data analyst who has a degree in data science from New York University, said they use state-of-the-art analytics software and business intelligence platform for their surveys.
He also pointed out that they have put in place safeguards in their survey methodology to make sure that the results are accurate.
Penaflor added that suspicious and errant behavior from its list of voters or respondents is readily addressed.
Hero Tolosa, the company’s statistician, said almost every survey – whether traditional or online — provides a room for error allowed in case of miscalculation or change of circumstances. In their case, the average margin of error in their surveys is a low 5 percent.
But unlike expensive traditional opinion polls, Tangere’s services cost a mere fraction of those offered by conventional survey firms.
Penaflor said most SMEs or individuals cannot afford the P500,000 cost of traditional surveys for a sample size of 1,000 to 2,000 respondents.
The same service can be delivered by Tangere for just P30,000 with less time and in real-time, said Penaflor.
Tangere, said Penaflor, is also currently part of the Launch Garage startup accelerator program.
