The Committee for the Special Protection of Children convened on Friday, March 1, at the National Telecommunications (NTC) office to address the so-called “Momo Challenge”, which is actually just a malicious prank.
The committee agreed with the Department of Justice representative’s stand that it is the duty of the government to secure the safety of all Filipino children from exposure to harmful online contents and activities.
As per the Philippine National Police (PNP), no complaint has been filed yet nor there are reported URLs pointing the source of the said challenge.
According to Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) acting secretary Eliseo M. Rio Jr., Facebook has already agreed to block pages promoting “Momo Challenge” and other similar propaganda.
Furthermore, the public can also report to consumer@ntc.gov.ph any suspicious website proliferating suicide challenges, harassment, and other harmful content.
The NTC said it will direct Internet service providers to immediately block the URLs of the websites containing these types of content.
Another option would be to call PNP’s hotline 414-1560 or by visiting the nearest Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit or any police station to report any related incidents.
At present, the government agencies said they are working together to intensify information campaigns on digital parenting.
