By Mary Jane Tadili

Vice President Leni Robredo led the launch last week of the second “Istorya ng Pag-asa Film Festival (INPFF)”, a nationwide competition for digital short films showcasing true and inspiring stories of hope of ordinary Filipinos.

In a press launch at the Office of the Vice President in Quezon City, Robredo said the INPFF seeks to provide a platform for up-and-coming filmmakers, many of whom are just waiting for the opportunity to showcase their talents. She said it can also be a vehicle for ordinary Filipinos to tell their inspiring stories.

?It is our hope that through the Istorya ng Pag-asa, Filipinos will be united around the common values of hope, perseverance, deep faith, and the goodness of humanity,? said Robredo.

?The success of the first INPFF in 2018 showed that there is a great interest in stories that offer hope and inspiration for people from all walks of life. For this year, we are excited to see young filmmakers share more uplifting stories that will truly make us proud to be Filipinos,? Robredo added.

The INPFF is a project of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) in partnership with the Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The contest is open to all Filipinos — even to non-professionals filmmakers and those based overseas, according to Robredo.

This year?s participants will have bigger prizes, with the top three best films getting the chance to be screened at Ayala Mall cinemas.

This year?s top winner will take home P80,000 while the first and second runners-up will get P50,000 and P30,000, respectively. Aside from special prizes for Best Script, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, INPFF will also give away a People?s Choice award and a special award from Ayala Foundation.

Aspiring film makers can submit their 3-to-5 minute videos, which feature an individual or group whose story is a source of hope and inspiration to their community. All filmmakers must shoot and/or edit their films in 1920x1080P or higher and export their films in 1920x1080P. All local dialogues in Filipino or any other language must feature English subtitles.

The phrase ?Istorya ng Pag-asa? must be featured at least once in the duration of the film. It may be featured orally, (spoken) or by use of physical text (written, printed or digitally added).

Films must be produced within the period of November 27, 2018 to March 25, 2019 to qualify. Participants must submit only one entry. For full contest mechanics, and to submit entries, interested participants may go to www.istoryangpagasa.ovp.gov.ph.

Deadline for entries is on March 25, 2019.
