Kaspersky Lab, Smart unveil ?tingi? payment for security products

True to the spirit of ?tingi? culture among Filipinos, security firm Kaspersky Lab has partnered with mobile operator Smart Communications to introduce on-demand service that allows Internet users in the Philippines to secure their devices on a weekly or monthly basis, for as little as P10 to P30.

The new on-demand program is part of a new business tier of Kaspersky Lab that seeks to offer access to its next-generation security solutions at more affordable and flexible pricing plans and offered through local service providers.

It is being rolled out for the first time in the Philippines and subsequently to other select countries in the Southeast Asian region.

In the Philippines, Kaspersky Lab aims to address the need for a budget-friendly online protection option for the country?s over 70 million Internet users.

?We?re excited to pilot this program in the Philippines which offers a very straightforward solution to the seemingly universal issue of not securing Internet-connected devices because the process appears bothersome and security software is expensive. We are confident that the flexibility of the pricing options will encourage more Filipinos to try the award-winning digital protection products from Kaspersky Lab. I can?t stress it enough — today is the best time to be in control of our devices and especially of our data,? said Daewan Ku, head of Asia Pacific xSP project development at Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Lab?s latest mobile malware report revealed that the Philippines ranked 10th in its worldwide list of countries attacked by mobile malware last year.

Meanwhile, the country topped the global Internet usage index with an average of 10 hours and two minutes per day, based on an independent 2019 report on online habits, showing the Filipinos? internet use is on the upswing.

The Kaspersky Lab xSP on-demand service is by far the most affordable offered by the company. It will be most beneficial to Internet users who own multiple computing devices — be it a desktop, laptop, or any tablet or smartphone running on Android, Windows, iOS, and OS X.

?Our digital lifestyle compels us to stay connected in the World Wide Web to do almost each and every day-to-day tasks. Because of this, we have to embrace the reality that it is now more difficult to keep our personal information confidential and our money safe. Kaspersky Lab is offering the xSP service in the Philippines so that Filipinos, who are known to be highly-active Internet users, can enjoy the perks of staying plugged to the internet while keeping what matters most to them safe and secure,? said Yeo Siang Tiong, general manager at Kaspersky Lab Southeast Asia.

While each device may be using different software and are used for varying purposes, all Internet-connected devices have a lot in common — they all store large amounts of personal information, including passwords, confidential financial details, and precious memories in the form of digital photos.

The service is currently open to both prepaid and postpaid subscribers of Smart and Talk N Text networks either for a 7-day or 30-day period for any of the three Kaspersky Lab products. This allows subscribers to switch from different security products and service duration as they see fit. Kaspersky Lab has collaborated with Zed Philippines to make this service possible in the local market.

The Kaspersky Subscription Service on-demand works by having the mobile subscriber request via SMS for an activation code of any of the three products in the Kaspersky Lab consumer suite. The activation code will then be keyed in on the Kaspersky app, which can be downloaded from Google PlayStore or Apple Appstore.

One can purchase any of the company?s consumer solutions below:

  • Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV) for the occasional, home internet user
  • Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) for the highly-active internet user, and
  • Kaspersky Total Security (KTS) for the hardcore internet user with various devices that require more enhanced security as well as data and device management capabilities

The xSP service includes all of the features of each of Kaspersky Lab?s three flagship consumer security solutions such as real-time protection against infection, malware, phishing, and identity theft as well as data backup, cloud storage service, password manager, safe money, parental control, virtual keyboard, and vulnerability scan.

As an on-demand service, there is no auto-renewal and the mobile subscriber will have to opt in after each service period ends. Kaspersky Subscription Service fees for Smart and Talk N Text prepaid subscribers will be deducted from their load while it will be added to the bill of postpaid mobile subscribers.

The on-demand pricing for each Kaspersky Lab product is as follows:

  • Kaspersky Anti Virus for 7 days is P10, 30 days is P40
  • Kaspersky Internet Security for 7 days is P15, 30 days is P60
  • Kaspersky Total Security for 7 days is P30, 30 days is P120
