Pinoy firm eyes rollout of 3D printing kiosks in malls across PH

By Espie Angelica A. de Leon

Filipino technology firm Kezar Innovations celebrated its first anniversary at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City on April 6 with the unveiling of the Kezar3D kiosk, which will soon be deployed in various malls to make 3D printing technology more accessible to Filipinos.

The Kezar3D kiosk

Kezar3D is one of the startups under Kezar Innovations which broke even less than 12 months after launching. The others are educational toy company StudyPlay, mobile platform for sustainable tourism Trakaro, and mobile applications developer Kezar Atlas.

The tech company?s 3D printing arm delivers customized 3D-printed products for P299 at minimum. These could be anything from a project prototype for school, prototypes of materials manufactured in plants or of startups? innovations prior to mass production, collectibles for hobbyists, or gift and souvenir items.

?Imagine a future where every Filipino innovator can just go to any SM or Ayala mall, bring his USB, show his design to any Kezar3D kiosk, return within a few days, and have a prototype ready,? said Kezar Innovations co-founder and chief executive officer Edward Solicito.

For the first phase of deployment, the company is targeting to have the Kezar3D kiosks in Batangas, North Edsa, Manila, Pasay, Cebu and Davao. Phase 2 has Ortigas, Cavite, Laguna, Albay, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and Tuguegarao in the pipeline.

There are two methods of 3D printing. One involves scale models built from CAD programs. The customer will send  the STL file of the design to Kezar3D for printing.

The second method involves ordinary photos. Using lithopane technology, Kezar3D will create a model of the photo and then produce a 3D printed product out of it dubbed 3DMemory.

?That?s the good thing about 3D printing,? said Solicito, ?whatever you can design, you can easily print it regardless of its size.?

The Kezar3D kiosk unveiling capped the anniversary party which also saw the launching of a new product line and two new startups under the umbrella company.

Formally introduced was BopBugz, the latest addition to StudyPlay?s product portfolio. BopBugz is a toy bug with infrared sensors designed to make kids as young as 3 years old run around trying to catch it.  The toy helps develop motor skills and hand to eye coordination, engages the kid?s senses, and encourages interaction among playmates.

At P599 with one-year warranty, the toy comes in three colors and three game modes. BopBugz is now available in Shopee.

Also in the can is a toy which will teach children as young as 5, the basics of electronics.

Meanwhile, two new business entities bring the total number of Kezar?s startups to six. Launched were business consultancy firm Kezar Philippines, Inc. and entertainment venture Kezar Productions.

?We will guide you step by step toward any innovation that you would want to be implemented in your company,? said Solicito about Kezar Philippines which will officially start operations in July 2019.

With Kezar Atlas and Kezar3D, he added that execution will also be part of the service.

Meanwhile, Kezar Productions will enable innovative lifestyle content creators to produce their podcasts, instructional videos, infographic videos, vlogs, tech reviews, and such by allowing them to use Kezar?s sets, units, and equipment.
