Pinoy engineers to benefit from new ?Arrow? marketplace

By Espie Angelica A. de Leon

Filipino engineers have a new digital marketplace to rely on for engineering jobs and projects around the world as freelancing and crowdsourcing platform Freelancer.com teams up with electronic components and engineering solutions provider Arrow Electronics.

The collaboration has resulted in an electronics and electrical engineering services marketplace that speeds up product development, reduces cost to market, and matches projects with suitable professionals.

Launched last March 14 was ArrowPlus powered by Freelancer.com. The platform enables OEMs including Fortune 500 companies to post engineering jobs or projects, hire engineers within 24 hours after posting, and order components through a single channel.

?Arrow brings to the partnership a large volume of high-quality, high-value projects, from well-funded companies with a real demand for innovation and talent. Meanwhile, Freelancer.com provides the platform and the world?s best expertise in running global online services marketplaces,? said Freelancer.com vice president ? international Sebastian Siseles.

At present, Freelancer.com has more than 32 million users around the world, including 1.2 million Filipinos.

?The Philippines ranks fourth in terms of number of users on freelancer.com which means that the country will be a large provider of highly competitive and highly skilled engineering talent, servicing Arrow customers from all over the globe,? said Siseles.

Engineering jobs or projects posted in ArrowPlus cover consumer electronics, transportation, healthcare, IoT, telecommunications, biomedical, cloud, defense, power, data, and the like.  The full lifecycle of product hardware development is included — ideation and prototyping, analog and digital design, printed circuit board design, Bill of Materials part selection, custom requirements to product delivery, documentation and translation, development of firmware, drivers and middleware, real-time embedded software development, integrated circuit design, manufacturing, among others.

To help companies choose the best candidate for the job, a rating system is available, reflecting the person?s quality of work, communication skill, expertise, and professionalism. The system is based on reviews provided by companies which had previously worked with the engineer. Conversely, engineers may also leave reviews on the companies they?ve worked for.

The electronics and electrical engineering services marketplace will also assign an Arrow Technology Concierge to each project to ensure that the job will be completed successfully.

At the same time, ArrowPlus protects intellectual property, ideas, and designs by maintaining Non-Disclosure Agreements between the engineers, the job provider, and Arrow prior to presentation of confidential project details to hired engineers.

?ArrowPlus gives Filipino engineers access to more job opportunities worldwide, cutting-edge projects, and the freedom to work on projects they’re passionate about,? Siseles added.

?I think [they] are world-class. It is evident in the works of Diosdado Banatao, the ?Filipino Bill Gates?; Anne Aarons, the director of video algorithms at Netflix; Dr. Gregorio Zara who invented the first ever video call in the world in 1954, as well as Filipino expats who help build cities overseas.?
