As it advances its digital transformation journey, local bank RCBC has announced the appointment of Lito Villanueva as executive vice president and chief innovation and inclusion officer, effective May 1, 2019.
Villanueva was previously the managing director of Voyager Innovations’ FINTQ, a fintech business subsidiary of the PLDT Group.
Villanueva has won several awards in his pioneering work including “sachet banking” initiatives for the unbanked and underserved Filipinos.
He has been championing the acceleration of digital transformation and financial inclusion in the country in support of the government’s efforts in creating an inclusive digital economy. He was the first and only Filipino included in the list of top 100 Asian FinTech Leaders.
“As digital technologies are fast reshaping all industries, Lito’s onboarding is a welcome development to the Group as we all need to embrace these disruptions to compete and future-proof our businesses,” said Helen Y. Dee, RCBC and Yunchengco conglomerate chairperson.
Villanueva concurrently holds the position of chief digital transformation advisor for the entire conglomerate.
Villanueva is the founding chairman of FinTech Alliance.ph, an industry group representing more than a third of the country’s registered fintech companies. He is also the president of the BSP Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. Institute for Growth towards National Inclusion, Transformation and Empowerment (IGNITE).
Villanueva’s two-decade career included key roles in international organizations such as Visa, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group.
He earned two graduate degrees, a Master in Public Administration with magna cum laude honors at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and a Master in National Security Administration at the National Defense College of the Philippines as a state scholar and with the distinction of being the youngest graduate, thus far. He finished his undergraduate degree in AB Political Science also in UST.
