With local ICT companies still having difficulties getting the right employees, a job portal is trying to become a matchmaker to make recruitment and job hunting a less stressful undertaking for both parties.
In an exclusive interview, ICTjob.ph CEO and founder Fred Tshidimba said his company plans to streamline the employee-employer matchmaking process as part of its efforts to help unemployed ICT applicants find the right gig.
According to Tshidimba, there is a need for employers to incorporate innovative ways in seeking out skilled workers and actually retaining them. “We have partnered with different associations to go and reach out further to the provinces,” he said.
The executive said the campaign is being done through the Web portal and is geared towards helping more unemployed ICT professionals in cities like Cebu and Davao. He noted that there is a natural bias of having more job availability in the National Capital Region.
Tshidimba explained the concentration of ICT companies in Metro Manila is a result of major tech firms and startups wanting to operate in busy business districts. This, in turn, has led to more IT professionals relocating to an already congested workplaces like NCR. Meanwhile, province-based startups and business process outsourcing (BPO) offices are left with diminished labor pool.
The official revealed that the website will soon roll out a “proprietary tool” in the form of a skills matrix which will enable self-taught applicants to feature skills that they did not acquire through the traditional educational system.
The exam will be able to distinguish if applicants are indeed knowledgeable in the skills they listed down in their application form including Java, Python, and the like.
“Today, we have more than 60 companies onboard. There’s really a growing interest in our portal. We are aiming for 30,000 different companies and small startups. We’re reaching out to them so they can publish their own postings on the portal,” Tshidimba said.
Aside from job opportunities, ICTjob.ph has internship offerings as well. Its partner universities include Mapua Institute of Technology, University of the Philippines, University of Sto. Tomas, De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, AMA University, STI College, and the Technological University of the Philippines.
