The Program The Future (PTF): The Accenture Technology Campus Challenge 2019 is set to choose its Grand Champion from 10 finalist teams. This is the sixth annual run of the competition that aims to spark innovation among Filipino college students from various schools in the country.
“PTF [is in line] with Accenture’s commitment to sparking innovation among our students, to make sure that they are thinking about how to apply digital technology in a way that would make a positive impact in society,” said Ambe Tierro — who is Accenture’s Advanced Technology Centers in the Philippines Lead and Global AI Capability and Delivery Lead.
PTF likewise leverages the breadth of experience and expertise of its pool of technology talent as mentors in areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence and user experience (UX) design.
In March this year, Accenture announced the nationwide call for entries for the 6th PTF with the theme “Industry + Technology = Better Place.” By the deadline, April 26, they received 53 entries from 18 colleges and universities in the country.
Twenty teams were shortlisted to participate at the Innovation Boot Camp, where the teams experienced a Design Thinking session to help shape their ideas and present their proof of concept to the Accenture judges.
The judges then selected the top 10 finalist teams and paired them up with their Accenture mentors and coaches. As they geared up for the finals, the top 10 finalists participated at two Code Camp sessions in May and June. Industry experts conducted coding and learning sessions in data analytics, artificial intelligence and UX design to help students develop their prototypes.
In a media briefing prior to the PTF Finale, the student finalists shared their ideas and appreciation in having been given the innovative platform to challenge themselves and develop technology-based solutions to address real-world problems.
“More than the recognition, I hope the students will treasure their experiences throughout their PTF journey and that they will cherish the mentoring and insights they have gained from their Accenture mentors,” Tierro added.
On June 29, the 10 finalists — from Asia Pacific College, De La Salle University-Manila, De La Salle University-Lipa, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, National University, the University of San Carlos, the University of the Philippines-Cebu, and three from the University of the Philippines-Diliman — will present their prototypes and one of them will be named PTF Grand Champion for 2019.
