Samsung PH intros upgraded version of its ‘Active’ smartwatch

Samsung Philippines has announced the newest addition to its Galaxy smartwatch roster, the Galaxy Watch Active2, just days before unveiling its newest Galaxy Note devices.

According to DJ Koh, president and CEO of the IT and mobile communications division for Samsung Electronics, the device enables the wearer to take control of their own health and wellness by bringing in a seamless flow between their devices across the Samsung Galaxy Ecosystem.

“The smartwatch market is rapidly growing, and we at Samsung are expected to continually expand our presence in new and visionary ways,” Koh added.

The device comes in two size options — a 44mm and 40mm — and two design variants: lightweight aluminum partnered with a Fluoroelastomer (FKM) Band that sets a more casual tone, and a solid stainless steel coupled with a leather strap that goes for a classy finish.

One of the observable updates to the device is its rotating bezel which can now be turned both to the clockwise and counter-clockwise direction when selecting apps and a few tweaks to make the One UI more simple and clear.

New health sensors have also been incorporated on the back, which take in readings faster that contribute to maximizing the fitness routines of the user.

Both the watch-face and straps can be personalized to leave more room for the wearer’s preferences. Similar to a scene in the film Captain Marvel where she picks out the color of her costume through her intergalactic timepiece, the watch can also customize its watch-face based on the color of its user’s outfit.

Through the Galaxy Wearable app’s My Style color extraction algorithm, the wearer can simply take a photo of their outfit, choose from five different color patterns, and the watch face will match the design cues.

Improvements have also been added in social media interactions which are now enabling users to respond or like a tweet or watch short video clips right from the wrist. There is also an added Spotify feature, plus all the Samsung services enabled through the Galaxy ecosystem like Samsung Health and SmartThings that integrate the watch across other devices.

The aluminum variants come in Cloud Silver, Aqua Black, and Pink Gold colors while the Stainless Steel only has the Cloud Silver version. Prices will be announced soon.
