Dell makes DataOne its first cloud service provider for PH

Tech giant Dell Technologies has tapped DataOne Asia to offer a new service consumption model that will enable organizations to only pay for the technology they use.

With DataOne’s Tier III Data Center located in Quezon City, the company has the best vantage point to provide Dell Technology Cloud’s hybrid cloud solutions in the country.

The inked deal is a no-brainer since DataOne has been adamant in using VMware technology exclusively for their clients’ mission critical workloads that include ERP, commerce, and even payroll. Their company started operations in 2002 and now boasts an array of data center and cloud computing services. Both Dell EMC and VMware welcomed the birth of CloudSecure in 2017 which reinforced DataOne’s presence in Managed IT infrastructure services.

According to Cyril Rocke, CEO of DataOne Asia, their aim is to shift the needs of clients for hardware and software as a capex to a managed service. Aside from a 24×7 local support and capacity-based elasticity and pricing, companies can also achieve up to 37% lower TCO in a five-year span with a managed private cloud.

“Ever since our inception, our concept and our go-to market has been to deliver IT infrastructure as a service. From the very onset, we knew and decided to focus on enterprise market to deliver technology as a service,” Rocke said.

A hybrid cloud environment that is privately managed is positioned as a catalyst for companies who are planning to move operations on the cloud. Some of the targeted customers are those who are building their own private cloud but lack expertise in navigating it, and even more so, managing it. The flexibility gained from a public cloud is also seemingly fused with the control and security of a private cloud especially for deployables and intellectual property concerns.

“We’ve been doing that for 17 years already. Technology has evolved. We started offering dedicated servers managed in our data center, but over the years, the schemes have evolved. Six years ago we decided to become a cloud provider in the Philippines,” added Rocke.

The emerging services is based from the new advancements and options announcement from Dell Technologies Cloud at the recent VMworld 2019 event in Las Vegas. These revolved around enablers for organizations to benefit from both traditional cloud applications and cloud-native environments.

Phill Patton, general manager of Dell EMC Cloud Service Providers in the APJ region, said that some of the factors they considered in selecting their first CSP in the Philippines was a deep and comprehensive understanding of the full spectrum in cloud technology. The partner must also be experts in consumption type models, and are involved with Dell’s technology story. DataOne checks all the boxes.

“Clients can choose to move their spending to opex on an on-demand basis. They can scale up or scale down, and they will only be charged for what they use. It’s a real benefit that we’re able to bring in the Philippine market,” Patton explained.
