Smartphone brand Oppo recently unveiled their new A Series 2020 bannered by two devices — the Oppo A9 2020 and the Oppo A5 2020. The new lineup will comprise of entry and mid-range-level offerings that bring updated flagship features on the more affordable handsets.
Based on the results of a recent study conducted by Canalys, Oppo claimed a 28% local market share by Q2 this year. According to Oppo Philippines marketing director Raymond Xia, the new name of their lineup reflects their vision moving forward and highlights the company’s innovations that cater to the younger demographic.
“We named this fresh new lineup the Oppo A Series 2020 in celebration of the beginning of the new decade, while also commemorating the success of the A series over the past ten years,” added Xia.
Xia also mentioned his excitement over actress Alex Gonzaga becoming the newest endorser of the upgraded A series. Gonzaga’s personality exudes the looks and feel of the devices which makes her a fitting representative of the younger-oriented devices.
The Oppo A9 2020 features a quad-camera setup in the midrange segment. The arrangement consists of a 48MP main sensor coupled with an Ultra-Wide lens, a Mono lens, and a depth sensor. Oppo is positioning the setup as a capable array of shooters that works well in all shooting angles and scenarios, even including an Ultra Night Mode 2.0 which can incorporate the wide angle lens.
Another notable feature of the device is its 5000mAh battery that can last an average user a day’s use with some juice left. Based on Oppo’s official announcement, the phone can power through 19 hours of continuous operation and support reverse charging which makes sense with the size of its battery.
The A9 2020 runs on ColorOS 6 on top of Android 9 (Pie) and is powered by a Snapdragon 665 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and Game Boost 2.0 with Frame and Touch Boost. It comes equipped with 128GB of storage with memory expansion options.
The A9 2020 is priced at P19,000, but the mid-ranger A9 2020 retails at P15,990. It’s available in two colors: Marine Green and Space Purple. The pre-order period is ongoing.
