UP Law Center to provide DTI with technical assistance on e-commerce

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UP Law Center to establish cooperation in the area of e-commerce.

DTI undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba and UP Law dean Fides Cordero-Tan signed the MOU between the DTI’s Competitiveness and Innovation Group (CIG) and the UP Law Center.

The UP Law Center will provide the DTI, particularly the E-Commerce Office (ECO), with scholarly and technical assistance in the review of the Philippine E-commerce Roadmap 2016-2020 and the succeeding roadmap.

The DTI-ECO has launched a series of consultative meetings with digital platforms, fintech companies, logistics service providers, and “e-commerce brown bag brigade” sessions with stakeholders to identify issues and concerns as well as recommendations in formulating the E-Commerce Philippines 2022 roadmap.

The UP Law Center will also provide assistance in crafting of regulations for the implementation of e-commerce policies and regulations, as well as in the enhancement of consumer and merchant protection policies including the integration of e-commerce specific regulations and online disputes mechanism.
