First PH national e-sports team to get P1M for every gold at SEA Games

Aimed at encouraging the national e-sports athletes to haul in several gold medals for the Philippines, Smart Communications has launched its “Get Gold” campaign, which offers cash incentives to “Sibol” athletes and their coaches for every gold medal won, namely:

  • P2 million cash prize for team events (Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor), and
  • P1 million cash prize for individual events (Tekken 7, Hearthstone, Star Craft 2).

“This is a huge milestone for e-sports, and it is our greatest honor to support the best Filipino gamers as they prove that we have the talent, skill, and drive to dominate this increasingly growing scene,” said Al S. Panlilio, PLDT chief revenue officer and current president of Smart Communications.

Sibol, the country’s first national e-sports team, is comprised of veterans in their respective games. They were brought together to heed the call of flag and country with the battle cry “Lakad Matatag”.

To further enable Sibol’s quest for gold, Smart has also opened the doors of the Smart Sibol Training Ground to the team, making it their headquarters and fitted with the latest mobile network innovations. There will also be pocket tournaments and test events in the coming weeks to ensure Sibol is honed to fighting form for the SEA Games.

“We are very happy that Smart is joining us in our first outing with Sibol – no less than the 30th SEA Games. With the combined efforts of Smart and their Get Gold program, as well as our other partners and the whole country, we believe that Sibol now has taken firm root and will be able to face all challenges that come their way on their path to victory,” said Jane Jimenez Basas, TV5 president and PSEU co-chair.

Since 2013, Smart has provided a platform for Filipino gamers to showcase their talent and skill at grassroots and world-class e-sports events, such as the annual Esports and Gaming Summit, The Philippine Clash 2015, ESL One in 2016, Manila Masters and the Smart Mobile Gaming League in 2017, the Road to the Nationals in 2018, and The Nationals, the country’s first franchise-based esports league.
