Vivo PH releases flagship smartphone NEX 3

Vivo Philippines recently unveiled its premium flagship offering for this year — the Vivo NEX 3 featuring the brand’s first camera setup with a 64MP lens, a screen real estate of 6.89 inches that brings it to a phablet form factor, and the motorized selfie module last seen on their upper midrange device, the V17 Pro.

The rear camera housing on the NEX 3 is similar to Huawei’s Mate 30 series and the Nokia 7.2. The circular configuration on Vivo’s device incorporates three lenses: an f/1.8 64MP shooter with auto-HDR and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), a 13MP telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.5, and an ultrawide 13MP lens equipped with AI Scene Identification and ultra wide angle correction.

Inside the stock camera app are features like Super Macro which can take photos even 5cm close, a Night mode, and an option to take full 64MP images. Video recording is capped at 4K resolution in 60fps while Slo-Mo is set at 720p in 120FPS.

For taking videos with an anti-shake feature, powered by Electronic Image Stabilization, the resolution is required to dip to 1080p. Meanwhile, the pop-up front-facing camera can take 16MP images with 1080p@30fps for recording.

The viewing experience on the NEX 3 is enabled by a Super Amoled FullView panel which Vivo claims can display 16 million colors. With the absence of a notch, the device achieves a high screen-to-body ratio of 93.6%. The display’s colors are improved with the presence of HDR10, and the pixel density reaches roughly 363 ppi for a 1080×2256 resolution.

The flagship entry runs on its own latest OS skin version Funtouch 9.1 which is built on top of Android 9.0 (Pie). It’s gaming performance relies on its Adreno 640 GPU clocking at 700MHz collaborating with the octa-core 7nm Snapdragon 855+. Although storage expansion is not an option, the NEX 3 arrives with 128GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM.

Under the panel is the in-display optical fingerprint sensor which is a tad slower than an ultrasonic one, but does the job anyway. The device is also made of an aluminium frame sandwiched by glass, and as a connectivity standard, can accommodate two nano-SIMs.

Below the device is a single bottom firing speaker towards the right side which can be an issue to gamers who use stereo speakers while in-game since it can easily be muffled by the users’ hands. It also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the slot is a no-brainer USB Type-C.

Finally powering the NEX 3 is a 4500mAh battery capable of vivo Flash Charge fast battery-charging at 44W.

The device retails for P39,999.00 and can be pre-ordered in online marketplaces like Shopee and Lazada until November 8 along with a pair of Harman JBL T110 Bluetooth earphones as a freebie, while it’s a JBL Go 2 speaker for pre-orders in Vivo concept stores nationwide.
