Signify intros IoT-enabled personal smart lighting system to PH market

Signify — formerly known as Philips Lighting — recently unveiled its newest IoT lighting product in the Philippine market called “Philips Hue”, a personal smart lighting system that has a range of more than 16 million colors and can be controlled through a smart device.

The lighting system works in tandem with a the official Philips Hue mobile application. The latest is version 3.33.0, which was updated just last November 4. The app now has over a million downloads.

Users can assign different colors to all Philips Hue individual lights, turning every room different from one another depending on the mood set by the user. The application also has four preset light recipes – Energize, Concentrate, Read, and Relax. The interactive use doesn’t stop there, as the lighting system can mimic 30 scenes inspired from real-world places.

“Filipinos are known to be quick adopters of technology, and we are excited to introduce the cutting-edge Philips Hue system to help usher in an emerging technological trend — the rise of smart homes,” said country leader of Signify Philippines Jagan Srinivasan.

The Philips Hue Starter Kit includes three White and Color Ambiance bulbs plus a bridge that allows the addition of up to 50 other Philips Hue light bulbs. To personalize the lighting mood, the app’s built-in picture-to-light algorithm can transform the uploaded image’s highlighted colors into the room’s mood color.

The users can also schedule when the lights turn on and off, as well as load the pre-loaded color scenes. In an upcoming update, voice command will also be added, where the lights will soon be activated by a simple verbal command.

Srinivasan pointed out: “The future belongs to connected living, with smart homes being a key driver today.”

Philips Hue is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as other smart home platforms like Apple HomeKit, Samsung Smartthings, and Microsoft’s Cortana. They are also equipped with dual Bluetooth connectivity and Zigbee technology. The lighting system is already available in select Power Mac Center, Abenson, Nifty, Electroworld, and iStore outlets or online via Lazada.
