Canva Philippines recently announced its holiday campaign and online competition #CanvaPasko Designed by You, where the winner will have his/her work displayed in a billboard along EDSA-Guadalupe.
The contest is open to those aged 13 years old and above, especially freelancers who can use the opportunity to have their work displayed in the country’s most popular major thoroughfare.
As of their initial launch, Canva’s office in Manila has already gotten hundreds of entries ranging from Christmas cards, memes, and even holiday-themed ads from small businesses who wish to capitalize on the exposure to promote their brands.
Canva Philippines country manager Yani Hornilla-Donato revealed that they are expecting “a more engaged participation with this specific user base” since they consider freelancing creatives as one of their platform’s bigger user groups for this region.
She noted: “People spend at least an hour a day in EDSA. Anyone who’s design will be featured on that billboard will definitely get so much publicity, it’s a good opportunity for them. Around 50,000 people traverse that road every day.”
When asked on why their company chose now to start a campaign in increasing their relevance with their local users, she said their Filipino teams are actually playing a big role in the company setup while their users here are starting to use the platform not just for Instagram Stories, but also for work and business. Since their Canva for Enterprise program will be targeting the larger scale companies, the nature of their free platform enables for a more individual-friendly usage.
That is why aside from the Canva and Canva Pro, the platform is also now equipped with a Print-on-Demand service to allow for a more seamless design to production processes of MSMEs, instead of a segmented flow with a convoluted market of vendors. The Designed by You project was also spawned by one of their in-house hackathons while 99% of 50,000 templates in the platform are made by Filipino designers.
“We really want to make sure that we explore partnerships and collaborations with MSMEs. In the Philippines, there’s over 900,000 MSMEs and it’s a great opportunity to help them with their brands so we want to make sure that by next year we establish ourselves as their design and marketing partners,” added Hornilla-Donato.
The complete mechanics for the competition is posted at https://www.canva.com/canvapasko. It runs until December 18. For each week of December, five winning design will be chosen while Canva representatives will get in touch with the winners to give them the schedule of their output’s appearance.
Hornilla-Donato said, “That’s actually more than what we expected to get in the first week through organic shares alone. We’re really overwhelmed with the positive, heartwarming responses. We can’t tell what the future holds for us but definitely, with the success of this campaign, this means more campaigns in the future whether it’s in a billboard or a different channel.”
