PLDT unveils its biggest disaster recovery hub in Clark

Dominant carrier PLDT has unveiled its largest disaster recovery center in the Philippines located at the Clark Zone in Pampanga.

The Vitro Clark Data Center is a massive 7,000-square meter facility, which is also reportedly the first stand-alone disaster recovery (DR) facility in North Luzon.

PLDT executives said one of the reasons the DR was set up in Clark is because of the continuing development in the area.

ePLDT, the carrier’s technology arm and PLDT Clarktel will operate the DR hub. The site can initially house 246 DR seats but this can be expanded to over 2,300 more seats.

The new facility is similar to other ePLDT Vitro data centers. It is seismic zone 4-compliant (able to withstand earthquakes of up to intensity 8) and has an N+1 Genset Configuration, which is said to ensure operational continuity in the event of power failures. The facility also has 24/7 security and customer support.

Clark, which is now considered as a “new wave city,” hosts several business and transit hubs, such as the Clark Special Economic Zone, Clark Freeport Zone, and the Clark International Airport. It is also where the Clark Green City, an expansive development project covering more than 9,000 hectares, is expected to rise.

“We at ePLDT, recognize that disaster recovery is a top priority for our customers, which is why we are fortifying our capabilities to ensure that we provide them with the means to safeguard their operations at all costs,” Jovy Hernandez, ePLDT president and CEO said.

A significant number of local enterprises remains without data recovery plans, which PLDT will be targeting. The main aim, according to PLDT is “business continuity” in the event of a disaster that might cripple businesses.

Hernandez said the Vitro DR site in Clark “will make it easier for our customers to enable their business continuity and resiliency plans.”

In a statement, Al Panlilio, ePLDT chairman of the board, said the launch of the site “works in fulfilment of the PLDT group’s mission of nation-building.”

“We have always believed that our business goes beyond ICT and digital services. We’re providing our customers with solutions that will improve their operations and in turn, allow them to better serve their customers and our society as a whole,” he said.
