BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Local carrier Globe Telecom has committed to invest some P1 billion to improve its communication services in this province, especially on better and speedier Internet.
This was announced by Bataan second district representative Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III as he welcomed Globe CEO Ernesto Cu here Friday. Garcia said the Cu’s visit is aimed at “making sure that we will have a good communication service from Globe and for us to have faster Internet.”
“Thank you for visiting Bataan to see personally where your investment will go and I hope that you will have more future investments here,” he told Cu.
Bataan governor Albert Garcia was also present to personally welcome Cu and Globe executives at the Bunker, the seat of the provincial government.
Cu said improving connectivity will be the first order of business for the company, saying that 74 more new cell sites will also be constructed in the province. “It is expensive but I think we may even increase the number,” he said.
Cu said the project will not succeed without the necessary government permits for the sites, asking provincial and municipal officials to help expedite the processing of the licenses. He also sought the aid of the local government units in identifying ideal locations for cell sites.
Garcia said he has already issued an executive order enjoining all municipal and village officials to assist Globe in its expansion activities.
“We will interconnect all of these locations. We will also install about 230 kilometers of fiber around the province,” Cu said, adding that Globe will be spending this year around P62 billion for infrastructure in the whole country.
In 2018, Globe built only more than 500 cell sites but was able to put up 1,100 cell sites in 2019. “This year, we want to build 1,800 sites. This is a historic high that has never been done before by any telco,” Cu said. –– Ernie Esconde (PNA)
