DICT conducts inspection of Dito-owned cell site in QC

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) inspected on Wednesday, Feb. 26, Dito Telecommunity’s cell tower in San Francisco Del Monte in Quezon City.

The inspection was made to check whether the new major telecommunications player is indeed on-track in rolling out the infrastructures needed to fulfill its first-year commitments by July 2020.

Dito committed speed of 27Mbps and the capability to cover at least 37,390,372 end-users in 7,425 barangays or over 37.03 percent of the population in the first year of their five-year roll-out.

Dito also targets to build 1,600 towers in which 600 are undergoing construction.

Honasan said.

The first audit of Dito is in July 2020, one year after they received their Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

Honasan said Dito’s CPCN and radio frequencies may be revoked if the telco fails to meet their commitments and their performance bond of 25.7 billion pesos may also be forfeited in favor of the government.

Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano and Dito chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago were also present during the inspection.

The DICT plans to hold site inspections of Dito’s other towers as part of the agency’s efforts to monitor the status of the third telco roll-out.
