SSS members can now claim benefits via PayMaya

Members of the Social Security System (SSS) can now claim proceeds from their benefits without leaving their homes by enrolling their PayMaya accounts as their default disbursement option in their My.SSS online portal.

SSS members only need to enroll their PayMaya accounts through the My.SSS member portal by entering their PayMaya-registered mobile number under the “Account Number” field at the Bank Enrollment portion of the portal.

Proceeds from the SSS funeral and unemployment benefits, among others, may be coursed through the member’s PayMaya account. Soon, members may also receive their calamity, salary, and other loan proceeds via PayMaya.

The move is part of SSS’s efforts to migrate to a ‘checkless’ disbursement process and completely electronic way to distribute funds and other proceeds to their members in response to the growing need to go digital and practice physical distancing given the current public health situation.

“As the country deals with the effects of the pandemic, our digitalization efforts at SSS become a crucial part in ensuring that we deliver not just continuous but also safe service to all of our members. We are glad to continue expanding our partnership with PayMaya not just in allowing electronic payments of member contributions but in the fast and safe disbursement of their benefits as well,” said Aurora Cruz-Ignacio, president and CEO of SSS.

“SSS has been one of the leading government agencies aggressively implementing digitalization of their services, and we’re glad to enable them with our end-to-end digital platforms so that their members can conveniently and safely transact with them wherever they are,” added Orlando B. Vea, founder and CEO of PayMaya.

The availability of PayMaya as a disbursement option for claims and benefits is part of its partnership with SSS in the latter’s efforts to ramp up the digitalization of its member services.

In 2019, SSS launched the capability to accept credit and debit card as well as e-Wallet account for contribution payments via its new mobile app powered by PayMaya Checkout, allowing its members to remit their regular contributions even if they’re abroad.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, PayMaya also provided the SSS a way to disburse proceeds for its Small Business Wage Subsidy (SBWS) program to qualified MSME employees via their PayMaya accounts, allowing them to still receive much-needed government aid even without a bank account.
