US-based meteorology company Atmo has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to build a high-resolution weather forecasting system for the Philippines using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The Iloilo Ground Receiving Station (GRS), the most recent addition to the country's space infrastructure, has successfully communicated with the Diwata-2 microsatellite, thereby furthering the country's long-term objective of expanding its nascent space technology sector.
To be led by the company?s corporate service corps (CSC) members, the program will bring technology and its ?IBM experience? to further aid the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a company executive said.
IBM has given an ?impact grant? to the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), allowing members to collaborate using cloud technology for ongoing relief efforts for typhoon Yolanda last year.
