[/caption] This is according to DBM secretary Florencio ?Butch? Abad, who said the agency is currently undergoing a security audit of the website, which may be inaccessible until critical issues are resolved. ?Our initial findings show that all important data in the website have not been compromised, and we are taking additional measures to reinforce the security of our servers and prevent future attacks,? Abad said in a statement. The attack occurred at around 10:00 in the evening, just a few hours after “unidentified parties” defaced the website earlier in the same day at around 2:00 p.m., rendering the website temporarily unavailable. ?We are issuing this statement to caution other government institutions against similar attacks that may be launched against their online systems,? Abad said. The Philippines and China are currently are currently embroiled in a cyber war because of the territorial dispute over the Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. Chinese hackers have defaced a number of websites operated by the Philippine government, pushing Filipino hacker groups to retaliate by bringing down at least 14 Chinese websites. The Philippine government, however, have issued a statement that it is not condoning nor encouraging the counter-attacks. ]]>
