The turnout was the biggest in the company?s regional series, officials said. In the press briefing that accompanied the conference, IBM executives explained that there is solid evidence that shows social media?s enormous impact on businesses. ?Sales people are not so happy these days because their quotas have increased because of social platform,? quipped Chris Haylock, business unit executive for messaging and collaboration at IBM Asia Pacific. IBM also pointed to itself as a reference for a company which has harnessed the power of social media. The company said it has used social software to foster collaboration among its 400,000 — long before social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter became popular. The tech firm said both large and small companies are now implementing social networking. In the Asean region and the Philippines, banks and retailers have taken the lead in the adoption, they added. Ferdinand Macatangay, channels manager for the software group at IBM Philippines, said it is important for social media-savvy Filipinos to harness and take advantage of this strength by taking the same dynamics into business and make ?it work for us?. ?Just to be clear, Social Business is not just doing marketing on Facebook or Twitter — it is taking on social dynamics and applying them on business processes — like HR, Marketing, Compliance, etc.,? Macatangay said. ?To become a Social Business, companies are encouraged to adopt a Social Business Agenda — which encompasses having a digital strategy, having policies in place for risk and reputation management and gleaning insight by use of social analytics,? added Macatangay. ]]>
