Franchise of 88-year-old telco renewed for another 25 years

[/caption] House Bill 6032 substituted House bill 5872 authored by Rep. Paolo Javier (Lone District, Antique) and was endorsed for plenary approval by Rep. Marcelino Teodoro (1st District, Marikina City), the chairperson of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises. Under the measure, the grantee shall secure from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) the necessary certificate of public convenience and necessity or the appropriate permits and licenses for the construction, installation and operation of its telecommunications systems. Teodoro said the grantee is prohibited from using any frequency on the radio spectrum without having been authorized by the NTC. In its website, the telco said it offers private telephone line service in Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. The company was founded in 1924 and is headquartered in Makati City, with additional offices in Cebu, Cagayan, and Davao in the Philippines. It operates as a subsidiary of APC Group Inc. ]]>
