[/caption] ?Many studies predict a coming shortage of healthcare professionals in the US, and EXL brings together a global network of doctors, nurses and analysts to support insurers and providers tasked with simultaneously improving outcomes and reducing costs,? said Rembert De Villa, executive vice president, head of insurance and healthcare, and chief strategy officer of EXL. ?Servicing the healthcare industry requires in-depth, specialized skills. With this academy, EXL will deepen our expertise and broaden our range of services designed to help companies meet their goals in such an important industry,? said De Villa, who is based in New York. EXL currently operates two facilities in the country, employing around 1,800 employees. De Villa said the company is looking at putting up another site in Cebu in the next few months that will initially have about 500 seats. De Villa, who has been with the EXL even before the company?s foray into the Philippines, said its local operations have grown 50 percent annually since its opening four years ago. The top-level Filipino executive said outsourcing, particularly on healthcare and insurance, is not expected to slow down anytime soon as this is the best model for businesses aiming to cut cost. ?In manufacturing, global companies make or get the parts from a country that offers it efficiently and at the least cost. That?s what happening to outsourcing because cost is still an issue among businesses,? De Villa said. He, however, said there is currently a dearth of middle managers in the local BPO industry. ?But the supply should come within the next four to five years as outsourcing sector matures,? he said. As for the Healthcare Academy, EXL has partnered with US certification and training institutions such asBoston Reed College and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Additionally, EXL employees will benefit from hands-on clinical experience from Manila Doctors, a local teaching hospital. ]]>
