By David McLaughlin Fostering innovation is a core Google value, critical to our company?s mission to ?organize the world?s information and make it universally accessible and useful.? Since our earliest days, we?ve made a concerted effort to use open Web standards and open source licenses to help move the Web forward. More great apps make the Internet better for everyone ? Google, businesses, developers, and users everywhere. With a spotlight on SE Asia, we recently finished hosting a series of g|day events in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Our g|day events were opportunities for students, webmasters, digital marketers, government workers, developers and entrepreneurs alike to meet Googlers and learn best practices for using our products. With Internet adoption and smartphone penetration accelerating rapidly on upward trajectories, these aspirational markets are dynamic and exciting places to engage with users. Over the last several months, we’ve also seen almost 30 successful DevFests all over the world, including in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. DevFests are large community-run events that can offer anything from speaker sessions to codelabs; they are inspired by and uniquely tailored to the needs of the developer community that hosts it. By the end of this year, our “Season of DevFests” will have touched over 10,000 people on 6 continents through over 50 different community-run events. Like snowflakes, no two DevFests will be exactly alike. At their core, these events are powered by a shared belief that when developers come together as a community to exchange ideas and learn from one another, amazing things can happen. It was great to see developers recognize ways that they could turn their hobby or idea into a sustainable product, used regularly by millions of people not only in SE Asia, but all over the world. From farming tools and traffic monitors to messaging services and clever games, developers across SE Asia are building innovative apps that span multiple devices and platforms. Looking ahead to the future, we encourage developers in SE Asia to continue their conversation with Google. At developers.google.com, we maintain a comprehensive collection of developer tools and training programs, not to mention relevant news items and lists of upcoming events. And don?t forget about our Google+ page! Together we can build an accessible, relevant, and vibrant digital ecosystem. The author is the global programs lead for developer relations at Google ]]>
