The new unified platform will serve as an enterprise-wide backbone to support critical operations, which include customer services, finance, human resource and logistics. The legacy IT platform is comprised of multiple database technologies that were purchased to address silo requirements of different departments and functions. The disparate environment made it very difficult and costly to consolidate data across the enterprise and to scale for the growing data requirements. After a stringent selection process, Meralco chose Oracle Database 11g R2 over heterogeneous database platforms to support the company?s mission-critical and most demanding transaction processing, business intelligence and content management applications. Under the IT optimization project, the company will also implement Oracle Data Mining, Oracle Spatial, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Tuning Pack,Oracle Diagnostics Pack and Oracle Configuration Management Pack to further enhance the reliability, scalability, manageability and performance of the new platform. The new platform will enable Meralco to improve end-to-end business processes, thereby bringing greater employee efficiency and enhance customer experience. This will also help Meralco become a world-class utility company and consistently achieve service excellence for the succeeding years. ?The standardization on Oracle Database platform highlights our commitment to enterprise transformation initiatives. The willingness to challenge the norm and to stretch the envelope of innovation will be at the heart of this all,? said Marthyn S. Cuan, VP/CIO of Meralco. ?We are confident that Oracle will help us realize our goal of transforming and reengineering the IT systems of Meralco, its subsidiaries and affiliates, in the most effective manner.? ]]>
