On December 14, 2012, the PNP issued Command Memorandum Circular No. 03-12, providing the operational guidelines and policies in the implementation of the ?SMS Verification of Firearms.? Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Police Regional Office 6 director, said the use of SMS will hasten the verification of the data of firearms, especially those which will be recovered from crime incidents. ?This new system is a big help to hasten our investigation of crime involving a firearm),? Cruz added. Records of firearms recovered or confiscated in police operations should be verified to serve as the basis in the filing of appropriate cases against the suspects. The PNP said the use of modern technology will allow timely and accurate access to firearms data for effective law enforcement, specifically crime prevention and crime solution. The designated Officers Personally Responsible (OPRs) in the implementation of this project are the commanders, the Chief Operations Officer and the Chief, Investigation Officers of every PNP unit. The OPRs using their registered cellphone numbers may send query of firearms data to Civil Security Group ? Firearms and Explosives Office through the following modes:

? By serial number of the firearm; ? By serial number and make of the firearm; or ? By serial number and caliber.

In turn the CSG-FEO system will send the following data of the firearm to the inquiring OPR: Admin Control Number; Kind; Caliber; Make; Expiration Date; and Name of Licensee.]]>
